Greetings from St. Mary’s on the Hill N.S. We are a mixed primary school on the north side of Cork City. We are located in Knocknaheeny and are very much part of a strong vibrant community.
St. Mary’s on the Hill N.S. was founded in 1980 and over the years our staff has increased to 30 teachers, 14 SNAs, 2 Childcare workers, Creche staff and ancillary staff. We also now have an Early Start, Playland Creche, 3 Autism Classes and a class for children with Mild General Learning Difficulties.
In St. Mary’s on the Hill N.S. we celebrate the uniqueness of each child and aim to nurture them in all aspects of their life. We aim to cherish and challenge our pupils in a safe, secure and attractive learning environment, with our dedicated staff leading in teaching and learning and a great variety of extracurricular activities. We strive also to empower parents in their child’s education and in the life of the school, enjoying many exciting activities together throughout the school year.
Our mission statement is: “In St. Mary’s on the Hill N.S. we support each other to be the best we can be in school and in life. We respect ourselves and others, valuing difference and aiming to have a happy and safe school for all.”

Children’s Books Ireland
The pupils of our Library Committee had a busy morning working with Aoife & April from Children’s Books Ireland. They were busy creating reading passports and sharing ideas for our Library Launch Day in March.
Our Classroom Fish
Ms. Prendeville and Trish took a trip to town on the bus recently to get some fish for our classroom. We chose two lovely fish from the big tank in the Petshop to bring back to our school. Now, we all take turns to feed the fish every morning.
Potato harvesting in the library garden 🥔🌿🍃
Sixth class had great fun this week in Hollyhill library garden. They planted onion and garlic bulbs as well as harvesting potatoes from the ground. Each child got to bring organic potatoes home for their dinner! What great fun 😃
Wind turbines 🌬️
We had great fun learning about wind farms in science this month in sixth class. The children put their STEM skills to the test, building their own wind mills.We had great fun testing them out!
Fabulous Fortnight!!!!
